Total number of plumbing fixtures

What This Calculator Does

Calculate pipe size needed based on flow rate and fixture units.

It combines Number of Fixtures, Fixture Type, Pipe Material to estimate Recommended Pipe Size, Total Fixture Units, Estimated Flow Rate.

Formula & Method

Total fixture units are FU=Fixtures\cdot FU_{per\,fixture}. Estimated flow (GPM) is selected from fixture-unit bands, then pipe size is selected from flow-rate thresholds for the chosen material.

Notation used in the formulas: R = Recommended Pipe Size; x_{1} = Number of Fixtures; x_{2} = Fixture Type; x_{3} = Pipe Material.

Method summary: inputs are normalized to consistent units, core equations are evaluated, then secondary values are derived and rounded for display.

Use this calculator for quick scenario analysis. Start with baseline values, change one driver at a time, and compare how sensitive the results are to each input shown above.

Inputs Used

  • Number of Fixtures: Total number of plumbing fixtures
  • Fixture Type: Used directly in the calculation.
  • Pipe Material: Used directly in the calculation.
