What This Calculator Does

Calculate ramp slope, percentage, angle, and ADA compliance.

It combines Total Rise, Ramp Length, Desired Slope Ratio (1:X) to estimate Ramp Length Needed, Slope Ratio, Slope Percentage.

Formula & Method

Slope ratio is Ratio=\frac{Run}{Rise}, percent slope is Slope\%=\frac{Rise}{Run}\times100, and ramp angle is \theta=\arctan\left(\frac{Rise}{Run}\right). If run is omitted, Run=Rise\cdot Ratio_{desired}.

Notation used in the formulas: R = Ramp Length Needed; x_{1} = Total Rise; x_{2} = Ramp Length; x_{3} = Desired Slope Ratio (1:X).

Method summary: inputs are normalized to consistent units, core equations are evaluated, then secondary values are derived and rounded for display.

Use this calculator for quick scenario analysis. Start with baseline values, change one driver at a time, and compare how sensitive the results are to each input shown above.

Inputs Used

  • Total Rise: Vertical height change
  • Ramp Length: Leave 0 to calculate from desired slope ratio
  • Desired Slope Ratio (1:X): Horizontal run per 1 unit of rise (e.g. 12 = 1:12)
