Formula & Method

Joist count is N=\left\lfloor\frac{Width}{Spacing_{ft}}\right\rfloor+1. Board feet per joist BF=\frac{2\cdot NominalWidth\cdot Length_{ft}}{12} and total BF_{tot}=N\cdot BF.

Notation used in the formulas: R = Number of Joists; x_{1} = Room Length (span direction); x_{2} = Room Width; x_{3} = Joist Size; x_{4} = On-Center Spacing.
