What This Calculator Does

Multiply or divide recipe ingredient amounts for a different number of servings.

It combines Original Servings, Desired Servings, Ingredient Amount to estimate Scaled Amount, Scale Factor, Original Amount.

Formula & Method

Recipe scaling uses Scale = \frac{S_d}{S_o} and Amount_{scaled} = Amount_{original}\cdot Scale where S_o and S_d are original and desired servings.

Notation used in the formulas: R = Scaled Amount; x_{1} = Original Servings; x_{2} = Desired Servings; x_{3} = Ingredient Amount.

Method summary: inputs are normalized to consistent units, core equations are evaluated, then secondary values are derived and rounded for display.

Use this calculator for quick scenario analysis. Start with baseline values, change one driver at a time, and compare how sensitive the results are to each input shown above.
