What This Calculator Does

Adjust cooking time when scaling recipe portions up or down.

It combines Original Cooking Time, Original Weight, New Weight, Cooking Method to estimate Adjusted Time, Original Time, Weight Ratio.

Formula & Method

Time scaling uses t_{new}=t_{orig}\cdot\left(\frac{w_{new}}{w_{orig}}\right)^e where exponent e depends on cooking method (roasting 0.67, baking 0.5, slow-cooking 0.8, grilling 0.6).

Notation used in the formulas: R = Adjusted Time; x_{1} = Original Cooking Time; x_{2} = Original Weight; x_{3} = New Weight; x_{4} = Cooking Method.

Method summary: inputs are normalized to consistent units, core equations are evaluated, then secondary values are derived and rounded for display.

Use this calculator for quick scenario analysis. Start with baseline values, change one driver at a time, and compare how sensitive the results are to each input shown above.

Inputs Used

  • Original Cooking Time: Original cooking time
  • Original Weight: Original weight or portion size
  • New Weight: New weight or portion size
  • Cooking Method: Used directly in the calculation.
