Annual cost C=12(kWh\cdot rate_e)+12(Therms\cdot rate_g). Upgrade savings S=C\cdot improvement\% and post-upgrade cost C'=C-S. Emissions scale similarly from energy-use factors.

Notation used in the formulas: R = Annual Energy Cost; x_{1} = Monthly Electricity; x_{2} = Monthly Natural Gas; x_{3} = Electricity Rate; x_{4} = Gas Rate; x_{5} = Efficiency Improvement.
